You're checking your own writing
Get a sentence-level breakdown of what reads as AI-like, then rewrite the flagged parts in the same workspace — no credits to track or top up.
Originality.ai is a credit-metered detection and plagiarism suite built for agencies and publishers screening freelancer content at volume. Penlify is built for a single writer: check a draft, see which sentences read as machine-like, and rewrite them in the same place — free for regular use.
Choose Originality.ai if you're a team or publisher screening a volume of freelancer content for both AI use and plagiarism. Choose Penlify if you're an individual writer who wants to check and fix your own draft without buying credits.

This comparison avoids inventing accuracy percentages or declaring a universal winner — see the FAQ below for why.
| Area | Penlify | Originality.ai |
|---|---|---|
| Primary workflow | Detect AI-pattern sentences, then rewrite them in the same workspace. | Detection and plagiarism scanning — no built-in rewriting step. |
| Result format | Sentence-level scores, colour-coded, so you can see exactly what's driving the result. | Document-level AI and plagiarism scores, with sentence highlighting. |
| Fixing a flagged passage | Rewrite it directly in Penlify with a chosen tone, without leaving the app. | Not built in — edit elsewhere and re-scan, which uses another credit. |
| Pricing model | Free tier with a monthly allowance, flat subscription for more. | Credit-metered: roughly 1 credit per 100 words for AI-only, 2 for AI plus plagiarism. |
| Built for | Individual writers and students checking their own drafts before submitting. | Agencies, publishers, and teams vetting freelancer or contributor content at volume. |
| Extras | Web workspace and Android app. | Team seats, API access (Enterprise), WordPress and Moodle integrations. |
Honest tradeoff: Originality.ai's plagiarism checker and team/API tooling go well beyond what Penlify offers — if you need to vet contributor content at scale, that breadth matters. Penlify's case is simpler: no credits to manage, and a rewrite tool sitting next to the score for the moment you actually need to act on it.

Originality.ai's pricing is built around scanning volume: publishers and agencies buying credits to screen a steady stream of submitted content. That's a reasonable model when you're checking other people's writing at scale. It's a worse fit for a single student or freelancer checking their own draft occasionally, where a credit balance to track and top up adds friction that a flat free tier doesn't.
The bigger workflow gap is what happens after a flag. Originality.ai, like most detection-only tools, returns a score and stops there. If a passage needs rewriting, that's a separate step in a separate tool, then another scan — and on a credit-metered plan, another cost. Penlify keeps detection and rewriting in the same pass specifically so that moment doesn't require switching tools or spending more.
To be direct about the tradeoff both ways: Originality.ai's plagiarism detection, team seats, and API access are real capabilities Penlify doesn't try to replicate. If contributor vetting at volume is the actual job, that breadth is worth paying for.
